5th Degree Black Belt!

About the founder

Master Freddy Sabbatini has over 30 years of jiu-jitsu experience. Freddy currently holds a 5th degree black belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu.

At the early age of seven, Freddy started his foundation & disciplines in Judo. He continued training & competing in Judo until he reached the age of seventeen. Then one day in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1991 Freddy had his first encounter with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age fifteen. Immediately he was intrigued with the nature of the sport and began training and competing in numerous jiu-jitsu tournaments from then on. He began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the tutelage of Master Maximiano Trombini who was one of the founders of Companhia Paulista Jiu-Jitsu. Master Maximiano Trombini also later promoted Freddy to his black belt in 2001. Freddy began teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1998 when he was a purple belt and began teaching students at the Cia Paulista academy in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 2000 thru 2004.

Freddy has competed aggressively in over 100 tournaments and has placed medals in over 75 of these competitions during his twenty years of jiu-jitsu experience. He has competed in seven black belt superfights and was undefeated in six of these superfights. In 1998, Freddy experienced his first visit to the United States and competed at the U.S. Open tournament in Northern California where he placed 2nd. It was during this visit that he envisioned himself having a school here in California sometime in the future. In 2004, Freddy moved to Los Angeles in hopes to pursue his goal of having his own academy. He was the head instructor at Fight Factory in Pasadena, CA. In early 2010, Freddy opened the doors to his academy and continued to use Companhia Paulista Jiu-Jitsu as the name of his academy because this is where his roots in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began.
